Our dining room is really coming along. Last week was a productive week. There was a big push to get the walls painted before our housewarming partying. I found the perfect grey. We went with Dolphin Fin by Behr. I learned I am very picky out which shade of grey I wanted. This color is a great light-medium grey that isn’t too blue. We also decided to replace all of the beige in our house with this grey. That’s how perfect I think it is and how much I hate beige.
We also got our drapes in! Jonathan’s grandmother is a seamstress and offered to make all of the drapes in our house as a wedding gift! Well a year and a half later, we have a house that needed drapes so we were finally able to cash in that wedding gift. I picked out this grey linen blend fabric from Joann’s and she added the blackout lining to the backside.
Now that are walls are grey and our drapes are too, our room is looking increasingly grey. Last night I set out to find some color to bring into the room. I found this amazing vase at a local thrift store for $8! It’s an original Japanese piece too. I went over to Michael’s and grabbed hot pink faux hydrangeas for $3.49 a bushel (they were 50% off); I got 4 bushels to fill the vase.
If you can’t already tell, I’m in love with vintage pieces. On this quilt rack, we have my family’s quilt. It was started early 1900’s. I was so excited when my mom sent it to me so I could display it in my home. We won’t keep it out for long; the sunlight can easily deteriorate the material. Once the quilt and rack have been put away, I’m going to replace that area with a bar cart.
So what’s next?
The walls need art
The fan might be replaced. (Jonathan and I are going back and forth about this.)
Matching head chairs for the table
Touch up a few spots on board and batten
Possibly lower drapes, I don't want them dragging the floor but I think they're a touch too high
I am loving the One Room Challenge, two more weeks to go! I get so much inspiration from the other participants too. If you’ve got some time, head on other to the Calling It Home blog to check and see what other bloggers are doing.
