One Room Challenge: Final Reveal

May 8, 2014

So this is my final, One Room Challenge post. Thank you so much to Linda over at Calling It Home for this awesome challenge. I have loved seeing what other bloggers have done to their spaces and being apart of a great support system to get our rooms done. Check out what other talented bloggers have done on Calling It Home. I can't wait to participate in this challenge again in October.

Well, the dining room is done! I am so happy to see what I envisioned come to life.

And my done I mean “done enough that I feel accomplished.” Yes, our picture frames are blank. Yes, I need to get another head chair and possible area rug under the table. However, I just decided on art to go in those frames yesterday. And I cannot, for the life of me, find an affordable set of head chairs and an area rug that I like. So my search will continue until I find the perfect pieces.
Other than those details, my first dining room, in my first home, that I’ve lived in for 2 months, is complete.
If you want to recap on the work I did previously and see all of the progress, check it out here, here, and here.

My husband’s reaction was “good job, why is it gold?” Because gold is in sweetheart. The beauty of the monogram and frames is I can repaint them when gold is on its way out. (And we all know that day will come.) One of my coworkers said “why do you monogram everything?” That’s simple, I’m southern. No further explanation should be needed.

I got the monogram off of Etsy. The shop is called League of Letters. I was looking for an affordable wooden monogram that was unfinished and 24 inches tall. There are about 1,000 of these on Etsy. I went with that shop because they had great reviews and a good price. I highly recommend checking out there listing here. The wood was not flimsy and you can see in the picture the monogram is beautiful. I knew I wanted a huge monogram in our home, but I didn't want to hide it away in the bedroom. I wanted to display it in an uncommon place. And since our dining room wall was blank, I had the perfect canvas. I spray painted the frames and monogram with Design Masters Brilliant Gold. My favorite gold spray paint. The picture doesn't do it justice.

And onto the empty frames. We have so many pictures of friends and family all throughout our house right now. I wanted some sort of art. Since I’m currently loving my ginger jar centerpiece, I wanted to tie that into the room more. I found three awesome prints on Etsy (1, 2, 3) that we’re going to fill those frames with.

  1. Hi Brittany...congrats on your first DR! The monogram fits right in:)

  2. The board and batten really finishes off the room nicely. You'll find that rig and those chairs! Love your art choices!

  3. I had to chuckle when you talked about the monogramming - I'm southern too - and I TOTALLY get it! LOL - And don't ever settle for furnishings unless you love them - it never works! (Take if from someone who has been married almost 30 years!) Great job - congratulations!

  4. Nice job, Brittany! It is very neat and stream-lined. I love that monogram. Thanks for sharing the source. I've always wanted one for our entryway on a double foyer wall. I hope you'll find the perfect art you need :-)

  5. Brittany, you did a lovely job on your dining room. I hope you entertain more than I do :). I love your wall treatment, colors and the monogram is charming. Great job.
